Amsterdam in your pocket

Let’s meet in some European city next summer” – my friend living in Berlin said to me. So, my boyfriend and I travelled to Amsterdam for a weekend holiday to meet my friend and her boyfriend there. We arrived there earlier than our friends and we had time to check-in the hotel, see some sightseeing in the close-by area and also to go shopping, yay! Then our friends arrived at the hotel and we went for a dinner and to see the city.

We also wanted to go to a boat canal cruise in the evening but we couldn’t find any so my friend’s boyfriend was asking for a help from some local young guys who were sailing on their boat. The guys gave us some advice and left but soon they returned and asked us to join them on their boat. They offered us some snacks and were kind enough to show us around the canals for free, for example Anne Frank’s house.

People in Amsterdam are so friendly! Everybody was helpful, even some random man on the street asked if we needed help and these guys especially proved people are open in Amsterdam. Also the shuttle bus driver at the airport said to everybody “have a pleasant journey”. At a local super market I was telling my friends that I don’t understand Dutch and I was wondering out loud about the product which I was buying and some guy behind me in the line answered to my question. How helpful! Later that night we were just walking in the city taking nice photographs and got lost and by accident found ourselves in the red lantern area - though we left there very quickly haha.

On Saturday we spent the whole day at the Rijk’s museum and we even experienced a powerful storm! All wet after the heavy rain we found by accident a nice restaurant. Note to self: always take an extra pair of shoes and jeans with you for a trip, even for a short weekend trip, because you never know how the weather will turn out!

In the evening we went to see a stand-up comedy show, which was really funny and a nice new experience to see stand-up abroad. After that it was late and we couldn’t find an open restaurant to have a dinner, so by accident we found a good Spanish style restaurant which we really liked! So many exciting things happened to us during this trip by accident: restaurants, boat trip.. :)

The next day we were thinking about visiting Anne Frank’s house or van Gogh museum but both were super crowded. It’s better to buy the tickets before hand,  for example online. We didn’t have all day to stand in line so we skipped both and instead we went to take photos at “iloveAmsterdam” letters. We also took a group photo with selfie stick and later we noticed a couple that photobombed us in the picture! After that we had a lunch and then we already needed to return to the airport and say goodbye to our friends.

Amsterdam trip went by fast but it was a great weekend with our friends! Because of the storm and hard wind our return flight was one hour late – luckily we were safely at home around 1 am and not later so I had time to have a good night sleep before travelling to Russia the next day.
